Your theory driving test is broken into 2 parts : Multiple choice questions and Hazard Perception.

The multiple choice questions test your knowledge of how our roads work and the behaviours that we should have whilst using them. The topics that the questions will cover include traffic signs, driver attitude, the effects of alcohol, drugs and fatigue and environmental aspects of vehicles. It is essential to understand the highway code and be aware of various traffic signs to conform with other road users and stay safe. Although this is a test needed to receive a full driving licence, you will use the highway code and other road rules throughout your time as a driver and therefore should take it very seriously. Use whatever method of learning suits you best but always LEARN the highway code, don’t just memorise it! Your Johnson’s Driving Academy instructor will always recap theory information throughout your intensive driving lessons as we want to transform you into a safe driver for life, not just for your driving test.

The Hazard perception section of the test aims to test your ability to identify hazards on the road. Whether it be pedestrians, motorbikes or cyclists, potential dangers are always around us whilst driving. During your test you will be asked to identify the hazard by clicking the computer screen once you notice a danger. As the danger develops you must then continue to click, with marks being given for how accurate you have been. The best way to prepare for this section is to practice. There are lots of very useful websites that allow you familiarise yourself with possible dangers that you may be faced with on the test and in real life. Remember stay alert! This is also great practice for when you begin your intensive driving lessons. You will need to focus on driving whilst noticing hazards around you to keep other road users safe.
